A custom car keychain can be a simple gift, but the difference between a generic design and a genuinely personal one comes down to the details.
Start with the exact car, not just the model
If the artwork is based only on “a black Porsche” or “a red BMW,” it can easily look interchangeable. A better custom piece uses the owner’s actual vehicle as the reference.
Look for a process that can reflect details such as:
- Body color
- Wheel design
- Visible body modifications
- Decals or graphics
- License plate treatment
- Lighting or exterior details visible in the reference photos
Choose a clear reference photo
A front three-quarter photo is usually useful because it shows the front, side profile and wheel design at the same time. Good lighting also makes it easier to identify body color and exterior details.
For modified cars, additional close-ups of the wheels, rear, decals or aero parts can help.
Look for proof approval before production
With a personalized physical product, seeing the artwork before production gives you a chance to catch details that matter. At Torque Toon, custom physical products include an artwork proof before production and two revision rounds.
Decide how the license plate should appear
Some people want the original plate included because it is part of the car’s identity. Others prefer it hidden or replaced with custom text. It is worth deciding this before the artwork is finalized.
Remember that stylized artwork is not a technical drawing
A cartoon-style or stylized car keepsake is designed to capture the recognizable character of the vehicle rather than reproduce every physical dimension exactly. The goal is usually recognition, personality and clean visual design.
Think about how it will be used
A keychain will be seen at a much smaller scale than a poster or full illustration. Strong silhouette, recognizable color and important modifications matter more than tiny details that disappear once the artwork is reduced.
How the Torque Toon process works
You can order first, then upload your vehicle photos after checkout. We use those photos and your notes as the reference for the artwork. For physical products, you review the proof before production begins.
